Rowing is the ultimate team sport. It provides a great total body workout. You can learn the basics quickly, yet mastering the sport can be a lifelong endeavor. Crew is fun, mentally challenging and develops the athlete’s focus, attention to detail, respect for one's self and others, and resilience.

NSC Juniors offer Learn to Row YEAR-ROUND!
NSC Juniors’ Summer Learn to Row Camps get athletes on the water quickly and provide a terrific introduction to the sport.
NSC Juniors also conducts custom Learn to Row classes at the start of fall (late August) and spring (mid March) seasons, and Learn to Erg during our winter training (December-February).
Summer Learn to Row Camps
Summer is the perfect time to see if rowing is the sport for you! Registration is open all summer long. Go to our registration page to select your week.
North Suburban Crew’s Learn to Row Camp is open to young women in grades 7-12 interested in learning the fundamentals of rowing.
Follow your Learn to Row experience with our Novice Crew Camps to continue developing your rowing skills, physical fitness, and teamwork.
Camps are capped at eight participants per coach to ensure individualized instruction. Register early to secure your choice of weeks!

Learn-to-Row: No prior experience is necessary. In our Learn to Row Camp you will learn rowing fundamentals including the basic stroke, water safety, familiarity with the boathouse and facilities, and equipment handling. The class includes training in tanks, on rowing machines, and on the water.
Novice Crew: This program requires completion of Learn to Row with NSC (or similar program) and Coach approval. In Novice Crew Camp you will build on the skills taught in Learn to Row. Skill drills and workouts will be introduced. Upon completion of two or more weeks of Novice Crew, you will have the opportunity to join our team!

Dates: For 2025, new sessions begin every Monday starting with June 2. There is no camp the week of July 4th. Each camp session is one week, Monday-Friday, 8am-10am.
Cost: A single one-week session costs $250. Register for multiple weeks in advance to receive pricing discounts!

Swimming ability is required for participation. Rowing is a water sport and it's important that rowers feel confident in the water in case of an emergency. All students must take and successfully complete the Swim Test (swim 50 yards, tread water for 10 minutes) prior to going out on the water. Go to the Juniors Commitment to Safety tab for full details and access to a printable Swim Test form.

In the event a camp session is cancelled by NSC, a refund will be issued to all participants for the full value of that week, as calculated based on the tuition package purchased.
Cancellations requested by participants must be delivered in writing (NSCJuniorsCoach@gmail.com). Participant cancellations received 10 or more business days prior to the start of camp will receive a full refund, less the non-refundable $50 deposit. Participant cancellations delivered in writing fewer than 10 business days prior to the first camp meeting are entitled to receive a 50% refund, less the deposit. No refunds will be issued after the participant’s first scheduled day of camp. Participants may switch to another week of their choosing free of charge at any time, subject to availability.
